  • The brain is one of the organs most enriched with the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. Observational studies show a correlation between high levels of either fish consumption, or blood DHA levels, and a decrease in cognitive decline, suggesting that omega-3 fatty acids have a beneficial effect on cognitive function. Intervention studies tested the effect of supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids and found that their use in the prevention of cognitive decline shows much promise. Studies also show that supplementation with DHA helps in maintaining, and sometimes even improving, the cognitive status of elderly, adults, children and infants.

  • Consumption of fish or omega-3 fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA, has been recommended by many international organizations such as the American Heart Association, the US National Institute of Health and more. Studies have shown that diets supplemented with EPA and DHA may contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). In a clinical study conducted by Enzymotec, we have demonstrated that K·REAL® Krill oil increases the omega-3 index (the percent of EPA+DHA in red blood cells) more efficiently than fish oil, and by that help lower the risk of CVD.

  • It is estimated that 3 out of 4 women experience some of the symptoms that are typically associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), including a cluster of emotional symptoms of varying severity such as feelings of sadness, tearfulness, irritability, or anger; marked anxiety, tension, fatigue, lack of energy, marked change in appetite (overeating or specific food cravings); the emotional symptoms are often accompanies by physical symptoms, such as breast tenderness or swelling, headaches, joint or muscle pain, a sensation of “bloating” and weight gain.

Studies tested the effect of krill oil or krill oil formulation in women that were diagnosed with PMS and found that supplementation with krill oil significantly relieved both emotional and physical symptoms.

  • Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease which is characterized by damage to the cartilage. Its main symptom is joint pain, leading in some cases to disability. OA has become the leading cause of disability, with an increase in incidence due to the ageing population. Human clinical studies, as well as preclinical studies, tested the effect of Krill oil on symptoms of either OA or rheumatoid arthritis and found that krill oil reduces parameters such as pain, stiffness and functional impairment.
